Amazing experience at “Pacific Meridian” in Vladivostok, where Whakatiki was one of only 10 short films chosen to screen in competition. Savvy audiences, hospitable hosts and an inspirational collection of fellow filmmakers. Thank you for the invitation!

Whakatiki is screening at Citizen Jane Film Festival, Columbia Missouri in October, in addition to Austin, Hawaii and ImagineNATIVE – wow!
I have been invited to attend the 10th Vladivostok International Film Festival of Asian Pacific countries – “PACIFIC MERIDIAN” to present Whakatiki – the only New Zealand film selected for competition in the Festival. An honour and a privilege.
Here’s what the judges had to say at the Presence Autochtone Montreal First Peoples’ Festival: “With its narrative fluidity and exemplary concision, Louise Leitch’s film is a humorous, humanistic illustration of the poetic motto “it is always time to be reborn”. Thus Whakatiki has earned the award for Best Short Subject.”
The Sundance Institute have invited me to apply to The Mahindra Global Filmmaking Award and The January Screenwriters Lab with my first feature film. I have applied as a writer/director team with Casey Whelan with our film, Living La Vida Lagos. January in Utah … now wouldn’t that be something!
